Descripción Teaching and learning a foreign language is characterized by being complex, it does not occur in a linear or cumulative way, in which the teacher has the main role, since he or she must encourage and motivate that learning based on the way each learner learns. Slang is a strategy that is generally used in English, but is not valued by linguistics. The Panamanian system has been characterized by having a low level of knowledge of English, which is why slang can be used as a strategy to improve the teaching of English at the university level, therefore, the need arises to carry out this quantitative, non-experimental study, with an exploratory and cross-sectional approach. in which information is obtained through a documentary compilation and the application of a survey, to know the use and impact that slang has on the teaching of the English language in Panama. The outstanding results indicate that teachers affirm that they use slang as a strategy in the classroom, they also consider that it has an impact on the retention of vocabulary and grammatical phrases, since they allow the development of communicative skills, improving the confidence of the learner and exposing him to an experiential learning of English, when using vocabulary and phrases of colloquial use.
Descripción Enseñar y aprender una lengua extranjera, se caracteriza por ser complejo, no ocurre de una forma lineal o acumulativa, en la que el profesor tiene el rol principal, ya que debe incentivar y motivar ese aprendizaje basado en la forma de aprender de cada aprendiz. La jerga es una estrategia que es usada generalmente en el
 
inglés, pero no es valorada por la lingüística. El sistema panameño se ha caracterizado por tener un nivel bajo de conocimiento del inglés, motivo por el que la jerga puede ser usada como una estrategia para mejorar la enseñanza del inglés a nivel universitario, por ello, surge la necesidad de realizar este estudio de tipo cuantitativo, no experimental, con enfoque exploratorio y de corte transversal, en la que se obtiene información mediante una recopilación documental y la aplicación de una encuesta, para conocer el uso e impacto que tiene la jerga en la enseñanza del idioma inglés en Panamá. Los resultados destacados indican que los profesores afirman usar la jerga como estrategia en las aulas de clase, además consideran que tiene impacto en la retención de vocabulario y en las frases gramaticales, ya que permiten desarrollar habilidades comunicativas, mejorando la confianza al aprendiz y exponiéndolo a un aprendizaje vivencial del inglés, al utilizar vocabulario y frases de uso coloquial.
