Descripción Artificial Intelligence-based (AI) tools are revolutionizing the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry worldwide by automating repetitive tasks, generating multiple alternatives, and optimizing the use of resources, greatly enriching and improving the design process. This article presents the results of a convenience sampling-based research conducted between July 12 and July 23, 2024 among Architecture students and professionals in Panama. The purpose of the aforementioned convenience sampling was to be aware of the knowledge, application, and development of Artificial Intelligence tools in Panama. In addition, a literature analysis was carried out regarding the use of AI in the AIC industry in Panama. The results show an incipient use of artificial intelligence tools, evidencing a critical gap in the academic preparation processes of current and future professionals - an essential situation to achieve significant advances in the Panamanian AIC industry. On the other hand, it includes -as a demonstration- the application of an AI tool -Stable Diffusion- aimed at developing material alternatives of the architectural concept of a project and its benefits in architectural design processes.
Descripción Las herramientas basadas en inteligencia artificial (IA) están revolucionando la industria de Arquitectura, Ingeniería y Construcción (AIC) a nivel mundial al automatizar tareas repetitivas, generar múltiples alternativas, y optimizar el uso de recursos enriqueciendo y mejorando enormemente el proceso de diseño. Este artículo expone los resultados de una investigación con base en un muestreo de conveniencia realizado el día 12 al día 23 de julio del año 2024 entre estudiantes y profesionales de la Arquitectura en Panamá. El propósito del mencionado muestreo de conveniencia fue estar al corriente sobre el conocimiento, aplicación y desarrollo de herramientas de inteligencia artificial en Panamá. Además, se realizó un análisis de la literatura relacionada al uso de la IA en la industria AIC en Panamá. Los resultados muestran un uso incipiente de las herramientas de inteligencia artificial evidenciando un vacío crítico en los procesos de preparación académica de profesionales actuales y futuros –situación esencial para alcanzar avances significativos en la industria AIC panameña.  Por otra parte, se incluye -a manera de demostración- la aplicación de una herramienta IA -Stable Diffusion- orientada al desarrollo de alternativas de materiales del concepto arquitectónico de un proyecto y sus beneficios en los procesos de diseño arquitectónico.
