Descripción In the province of Colón, as in other parts of the country, speakers use terms derived from English, which are combined with Spanish to create new terms that have become part of our language. This phenomenon is known as bilingualism and is the result of the historical influence that English has had in this coastal area for many years due to coexistence with other cultures, especially Afro-Caribbean and American cultures. The objective of this research is to analyze some words that are the product of the cultural exchange reflected in this region. This is due to the mixture or contact between Spanish and English, that is, bilingualism. This represents a sample of the lexical attitudes and linguistic variation of its inhabitants.
The results show that some terms originating from the English language have managed to adapt and evolve in Spanish, affecting not only their spelling but also their pronunciation. It is concluded that language is changeable and flexible. Therefore, it undergoes certain modifications or linguistic variations when it comes into contact with other types of cultures and other languages, which directly impacts and influences people who live in certain social contexts.
Descripción En la provincia de Colón, como en otros sectores del país, se nota entre los hablantes el uso de términos provenientes del idioma inglés, los cuales se combinan con el español dando paso a la creación de nuevos términos que han logrado adaptarse a nuestro idioma. Este fenómeno es conocido como bilingüismo y es producto de la influencia histórica que ha tenido, por muchos años, el inglés en esta zona costera debido a la convivencia con otras culturas, en especial con la afroantillana y la estadounidense. El objetivo de esta investigación consiste en analizar algunos vocablos que son producto del intercambio cultural que se refleja en esta región. Esto se debe a la mezcla o contacto entre el español y el inglés, es decir, el bilingüismo. Esto representa una muestra de las actitudes léxicas y la variación lingüística de sus habitantes. Los resultados demuestran que algunos términos que se originan del idioma inglés han logrado adaptarse y evolucionar en el español, afectando no solo su escritura, sino también su pronunciación. Se concluye que la lengua es cambiante y flexible. Por ende, sufre ciertas modificaciones o variaciones lingüísticas al ponerse en contacto con otros tipos de culturas y con otras lenguas, lo que impacta e influye directamente a personas que conviven en ciertos contextos sociales.
