Descripción This study analyzes the psychological impact of cervical cancer on a 72-year-old patient, examining risk factors, the need for psychological support, and available therapies. It highlights the high prevalence of depression in these cases. The longitudinal, single-case descriptive study includes quantitative and qualitative analyses, revealing a significant increase in the patient's depression levels after diagnosis, underscoring the importance of comprehensive psychological intervention to improve quality of life and facilitate adaptation to the disease. It also provides an epidemiological context on the cancer worldwide and in Panama, as well as specific data on cervical cancer.
Descripción En la presente investigación se analiza el impacto psicológico del cáncer cervicouterino en una paciente de 72 años, examinando los factores de riesgo, la necesidad de apoyo psicológico y las terapias disponibles, destacando la alta prevalencia de la depresión en estos casos. El estudio descriptivo de caso único y longitudinal incluye un análisis cuantitativo y cualitativo, revelando un incremento significativo en los niveles de depresión de la paciente tras el diagnóstico, subrayando la importancia de la intervención psicológica integral para mejorar la calidad de vida y facilitar la adaptación a la enfermedad. Además, se proporciona un contexto epidemiológico sobre el cáncer a nivel mundial y en Panamá, así como datos específicos sobre el cáncer cervicouterino.
