Therapeutic adherence among renal patients is key to the success of hemodialysis treatment, influencing both quality of life and healthcare costs. This study aimed to characterize the biopsychosocial and demographic profile of renal patients with clinical signs of therapeutic adherence, providing a baseline for nursing interventions in non-adherent patients. A quantitative, descriptive, exploratory, and cross-sectional study was conducted among 75 hemodialysis patients at the Dr. Horacio Díaz Gómez Polyclinic in Santiago, Veraguas. Data were collected using a questionnaire integrating validated instruments covering biological, psychological, social, and demographic dimensions. Data analysis was performed using EPI INFO software. Findings revealed that adherent patients were predominantly over 50 years old, female, married or partnered, with children, good family dynamics, religious beliefs, social support, psychological well-being, and high self-efficacy. These results highlight biopsychosocial factors associated with adherence, guiding nursing professionals in planning educational interventions to enhance self-care and treatment adherence.

Descripción Introducción: La adherencia terapéutica del paciente renal es la clave del éxito del tratamiento hemodialítico, ya que influye directamente en la calidad de vida y los costos del sistema sanitario. Este artículo tuvo como objetivo caracterizar el perfil biopsicosocial y demográfico del paciente renal. Metodología: Se realizó un estudio cuantitativo, descriptivo, exploratorio y transversal en 75 pacientes en tratamiento de hemodiálisis en el último trimestre 2023, en la Policlínica Dr. Horacio Díaz Gómez, en Santiago, Veraguas. La recolección de datos se efectuó mediante un cuestionario integrado por instrumentos validados que abarcaron las dimensiones biológica, psicológica, social y demográfica. El análisis de los resultados se realizó con el programa EPI INFO. Los hallazgos evidenciaron que el paciente adherido es, en su mayoría, mayor de 50 años, de sexo femenino, casado o en unión estable, con hijos, buena dinámica familiar, con creencias religiosas, apoyo social y bienestar psicológico, además de mostrar autoeficacia elevada. Conclusiones: Estos resultados aportan evidencia sobre los factores biopsicosociales que caracterizan a buena adherencia, de manera que orientan a las enfermeras en la planificación de estrategias educativas para fortalecer el autocuidado y la adherencia terapéutica.
