The study was carried out at Gualaca Research Station with Zebu cattle grazing on unfertilized Faragua (hyparrhenia rufa) grass, with no mineral salt suplemented. Two mating periods of 3 months each during the year were studied; the first from April 15 to July 15, the second from August 15 to November 15. The same were repeated for 8 and 6 years respectively. Hards were made up of calving and noncalving cows, and heifers ready for service. The cow bult relation was 26:1. Results showed that under the first mating period, there was a greater percentage (57.2%) of pregnant cows than that of the second period (42.9%). Descripción
El trabajo se realizó en la Estación Experimental de Gualaca. Se utilizó ganado Cebú, bajo sistema de pastoreo en Faragua (hyparrhenia rufa), sin fertilizar y suplementación de sales minerales. Se estudiaron dos épocas de empadre durante el año, con duración de tres meses cada una; la primera, de abril 15 a julio 15; la segunda, de agosto 15 a noviembre 15. Las mismas se repitieron 8 y 6 años, respectivamente. Los hatos estudiados estuvieron conformados por vacas con terneros lactantes, vacas secas (sin terneros), y novillas aptas para el servicio; con una relación vaca-toro de 26:1. Se concluye que en la primera época de empadre el porcentaje de vacas preñadas fue superior a la segunda época (57.2 y 42.9%, respectivamente).
