Descripción The stream frog Plectrohyla acanthodes presents a strong decrease in its populations, this could be associated with extreme fluctuations in the precipitation cycles that go from periods of extreme rains followed by periods of desiccation that modify and affect the survival of their first stages of life. The objective of this study was to identify the effects of extreme precipitation on the larval development of a population of P. acanthodes along a temporary stream, in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas. 10 sampling points were established to evaluate the physical conditions, as well as the morphometric measurements of the 57 tadpoles found. The excess of rainfall influenced the temperature, depth, the number of tadpoles found and the existing background material, generating differences between the sampling points. Most of the tadpoles were found in less elevated points with less depth, temperatures above 17 ° C and sandy bottom material where most of it was concentrated. It was also possible to distinguish differences in the size of the tadpoles, the largest were found at the lowest altitude points. However, these points are closer to human populations, domestic animals that defecate in the stream and where there is a greater accumulation of solid waste, which puts the successful development of tadpoles at risk, which could be associated with the absence of adult organisms during the study. It is necessary to monitor this population and its development, evaluate the level of contamination and its repercussions and know if the increase in the flow of water due to rainfall intervenes in its dispersion.
Descripción La rana de arroyo Plectrohyla acanthodes presenta una fuerte disminución en sus poblaciones, esto podría estar asociado a las fluctuaciones extremas en los ciclos de precipitación que van de periodos de lluvias extremas seguidas de periodos de desecación que modifican y repercuten en la supervivencia de sus primeros estadios de vida. El objetivo de este estudio fue identificar los efectos de la precipitación extrema en el desarrollo larvario de una población de P. acanthodes a lo largo de un arroyo temporal, en San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas. Se establecieron 10 puntos de muestreo para evaluar las condiciones físicas, así como las medidas morfométricas de los 57 renacuajos encontrados. El exceso de lluvias influyó en la temperatura, profundidad, el número de renacuajos encontrados y el material de fondo existente, generando diferencias entre los puntos de muestreos. La mayoría de los renacuajos fueron encontrados en puntos menos elevados con menor profundidad, temperaturas por arriba de los 17°C y material de fondo arenoso donde se concentró la mayor parte. También se pudo distinguir diferencias en el tamaño de los renacuajos, los más grandes se encontraron en los puntos de menor altitud. Sin embargo, estos puntos presentan mayor cercanía a poblaciones humanas, animales domésticos que defecan en el arroyo y donde existe mayor acumulación de desechos sólidos, lo que pone en riesgo el desarrollo exitoso de los renacuajos lo que se podría asociarse a la ausencia de organismos adultos durante el estudio. Es necesario dar seguimiento a esta población y su desarrollo, evaluar el nivel de contaminación y sus repercusiones y conocer si el incremento en el flujo de agua por lluvias interviene en su dispersión.
